Minutemen Girls’ Basketball Getting Ready for 2024-25 Season

The Newark Academy girls’ basketball team is hoping to build on last year’s success as the 2024-25 season approaches.

2023 Season Recap
The 2023-24 season was a landmark year for the Minutemen, who posted a 19-9 record and captured both the Prep B Championship and the Super Essex Conference American Division title. In the Prep B Championship, Newark Academy dominated Pennington with a 68-43 victory, earning back-to-back titles.

The Minutemen also made waves in the state tournament, earning a home seed for the first two rounds before falling to Pope John in the State Sectional Semifinals. Senior captains Dagny Slomack ’24, Kat Dakos ’24, and Julia Miller ’24 played pivotal roles in leading the team to its success.

New Leadership and Key Returners
As the Minutemen look ahead, they will be without the high-scoring and leadership of graduates Slomack and Dakos, both 1,000-point scorers and All-Prep B First Team honorees. However, the team remains optimistic with the return of seniors Maddie Bulbulia, Gracie Kelly an All-Prep B Second Team and All-SEC American Division Honorable Mention and Sienna Murphy an All-Prep B Honorable Mention and All-SEC American Division honoree.

Season Outlook
The Minutemen open their season on Tuesday, December 17, with a road matchup against Oak Knoll at 4 p.m. Newark Academy will once again compete in the top-tier Super Essex Conference American Division, facing tough opponents like Immaculate, Mount Saint Dominic, Glen Ridge, University, and West Orange.
