Newark Academy cultivates a school community where all members are welcomed, respected, valued, and celebrated. Members of the community must commit to our Community Commitments emphasizing these five values: inclusivity, kindness, responsibility, trust, and growth mindset. In so doing, we hope to further our equity and inclusion goals. We expect all summer programming participants to conduct themselves responsibly, and to show consideration for the rights and properties of others. Students who enroll in Summer Session academic programs must be in good disciplinary standing at their respective schools. The following are guidelines for student conduct: 

• Casual attire is permitted for students in the Summer Session.
• Student-athletes enrolled in the Summer Sports programs are expected to arrive, daily, in ready-to-play athletic footwear and apparel.
• Only enrolled students are permitted on campus.
• Students are expected to leave campus within one-half hour after the completion of their last scheduled class or activity.
• Students may not bring visitors to classes or activities.
• Smoking and vaping are not permitted on campus.
• Failure to comply with the rules of conduct may result in dismissal.

Book and materials distribution for courses will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Wrightson Gymnasium on the Newark Academy campus. Students will purchase books and locate their classrooms within the building. Students should refer to our learning management system, MyNA Summer, in advance of book distribution to confirm their schedule and classroom assignments. Students enrolled in courses that begin on Monday, June 23 and require books should attend. Students whose programs begin after June 23, 2025 may purchase their books on the day that their classes begin. A book list will be made available to families in advance of book and material distribution to help in planning.

Class target numbers for this summer are as follows:

Advanced credit courses and preview courses: 20 students.
Writing and Literature courses: 18 students.
Enrichment, Arts, STEM: 16 students.

A minimum of 5 students is required to run a course.

A class is closed when the maximum number of students are enrolled in that specific course. If you attempt to enroll in a class that has closed, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified as soon as a spot opens or another section is formed. Please do not call the office and ask the status of a particular wait list. You will be asked to select an alternative course if a class is closed.

Among Newark Academy values are interpersonal relationships and community. We believe that the most effective teaching and learning occurs when a teacher and student are able to establish a connection in person. Newark Academy conducts all summer session classes in person. 

As a general policy students are allowed on campus 30 minutes prior to their first class and should depart campus within 30 minutes of their program ending. The school opens at 7:35am. and any student arriving on campus will need to wait in the Dining Room until 7:50am. when the first bell rings.

No students can be on campus without being enrolled in a course or a camp. If a student (grades 3-12) has a gap in their schedule they will need to sign up and report to the library. The Library session is offered in one hour blocks from 8:05am-3:00pm. Students can choose this enrollment for Session A, Session B, or both. Library tuition is $300/hr for the three weeks of either session. This is to help ensure all students are accounted for in case of a fire drill or an emergency. When registering you will see the option for library signups.

Newark Academy is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.

Enrollment will open in January 2025.  You can enroll and pay online using our Summer Session Enrollment Portal. You will receive a confirmation letter when your application is received and processed.

For families that enroll prior to May 1st, there is an Early Bird registration discount of $25. This discount will be applied automatically when registration is completed.

If you are adding a course to your child's schedule you can log back into the registration portal and complete the addition of the course.

If the change requires the removal of a course you must contact the summer office at summer@newarka.edu. Any changes that are made after May 1st require permission from the Director and will incur a change fee of $50.

As commitments to faculty are made in advance of the session, please see the refund information below.

• The $125 registration fee is non-refundable. 

• A student who withdraws from a course before May 15th will receive a full tuition refund.

• A student who withdraws from a course between May 15th and May 31th will be assessed a $250 fee. 

• A student who withdraws from a course between June 1st and June 21st will be assessed 75% of the tuition.

• No refunds will be granted after June 22nd.

Newark Academy's Summer Program uses MyNASummer as our Learning Management System. Families will receive instructions accessing this resource after the registration process is completed. Students and parents will have individually logins which will allow them to access course pages, assignments, and additional resources that teachers post. Families can also view attendance, grades and comments at the conclusion of each session. MyNASummer provides information for all aspects of our program.

Students may be required to purchase a textbook or other instructional materials. Please refer to the course syllabi to see if the materials are included or not. The cost for books ranges from $10 to $100 and can be paid by check, cash, or money order at our book distribution day Saturday, June 21st.

The book list will be shared on MyNASummer with families in advance of the session.

Students are encouraged to bring appropriate technology to support them in their academic classes. MyNASummer is our learning management system and students should be able to access this system on a daily basis on their device. Courses that require laptops will have this included in their syllabi which is available on our website.

Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate special requests for specific teachers.

Advanced credit courses meet for six weeks, four hours daily for a total of 120 hours and are for students seeking to further their academic studies in the summer. These courses are equivalent in rigor and content to full-year programs at Newark Academy. Students can expect multiple assessments per week and approximately 60-90 minutes of homework each night. Students can take advanced credit courses for enrichment, or with their school's approval, transfer the course for credit at their respective schools.  Students taking advanced credit courses are allowed two absences (8 total class hours) and are responsible for missed work.

Preview courses are two-hour courses designed for students who want substantial exposure to courses they will take in the fall. Preview courses are offered in math, science and language and allow students to consider taking another two-hour course in the summer session. They meet for six weeks, two hours daily for a total of 60 hours. Students in preview courses will cover approximately half of the entire course material over a six-week period.

If you want to transfer credit to your school, you should get the school's approval in writing. You do not need to submit any approval with your application. Prior approval by your child's school is for your benefit. Your child will fill out a form during the summer session giving us approval to send a transcript directly to their school at the completion of the course.

Students enrolled in an advanced credit course have the option of requesting a transcript to provide to their school for possible credit. A transcript request form will be shared via MyNASummer which must be completed in order for the summer office to process the transcript request. 

Please note that in order for an advanced credit student to be eligible for a transcript, they must not have more than 2 class absences (8 total class hours) during the entirety of their enrollment.

The preview courses are six-week courses. During the six weeks, students will cover approximately half of the entire course material. Students who cannot attend the six-week previews, can enroll in our 3-week Math Topics classes. These 3-week courses focus on specific topics in each branch of mathematics and offer students targeted instruction on these topics. You can review the syllabi for all classes on the individual class pages.

Report cards are issued at the conclusion of Session A and Session B. Grades and comments are accessed via MyNASummer.

All teachers will have their email address posted on their course page.

Please email summer@newarka.edu if your child is going to be absent.

If your child needs to leave early, please email summer@newarka.edu with as much notice as possible. The summer office will notify the teacher who can dismiss the child directly. There is no need for parents to come into the building if they have received confirmation of dismissal from the office. 

Students arriving late should proceed directly to class.

Phones should not be in use in the classroom except with the express permission of the teacher.

Because of cell phone cameras, cell phones may not be used at any time in the locker rooms or bathrooms. Inappropriate cell phone camera use is an invasion of privacy and potentially violates the school’s Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment and Bullying Policy and will be treated accordingly.

Newark Academy provides a secure environment that promotes opportunities for student growth. Parents and all other visitors to our campus must enter through the front entrance to the building and report directly to the receptionist. Here they will sign in and receive a visitor’s pass that must be worn at all times.

The two possible locations are in front of the main building or in front of The Wilf Middle School Building in the upper parking lot. These are the only two locations where students may be picked up or dropped off on campus. Please discuss with your child ahead of time and agree on where you will pick them up.

Consider picking up your child at a later time. By 12:50pm the traffic is lighter and by 12:55pm the driveway is clear. Our lunch room is open from 12:30 - 1:00pm for all students.

Click here for a traffic map and additional information. Please remain in your vehicle at all times and follow the traffic lanes and requests from the traffic attendants. These regulations are designed to ensure that our students' safety remains our top priority.

You will need to complete the Hold Harmless Form when registering your child. Once we verify the completion of the form, you will gain access to the carpool information which will be available on MyNASummer under Directories.

There is no school bus service directly to our campus. We encourage families when registering to sign up for our carpool list to help alleviate transportation scheduling.

Students can either bring lunch from home or purchase lunch from our food service in the dining room between 12:30-1:00pm. All food must be consumed in the Dining Room or outside courtyards.

Newark Academy is proud to partner with SAGE Dining Services® for our food service. Students are welcome to enjoy meals in the dining room for breakfast, lunch, or snack. The dining room is open every day from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Student schedules include a lunch period from 12:30 to 1:00 pm. All food must be consumed in the Dining Room or outside courtyards.

In order to best manage this process, we will be using the online MyKidsSpending accounts to facilitate these transactions. If your child wishes to purchase food at Newark Academy, you can fund this account by following the directions that will be shared via email shortly before the session begins. Please note that using a MyKidsSpending account is optional, as cash will still be accepted to purchase food items.

Lunch is only provided for those students that signed up for Lunch Bunch. These students can also purchase additional treats with either cash or by setting up a MyKidsSpending Account.

Yes lunch is included for all the baseball campers. Mott-Leeney Baseball Campers can also purchase additional treats with cash only during their lunch period.

Yes. Every student will be given an ID card with a lanyard that must be worn everyday and be fully visible. Failure to wear an ID or a lost ID will result in a $10 fee.

Newark Academy employs a full time security team for the duration of the summer program.

Students enrolling in NA Summer Programs must complete the medical form as part of the registration for summer programs. Immunization records should be uploaded before the beginning of the session. A school nurse will be available during book distribution if you have additional questions.

Newark Academy’s Summer Programs are staffed, daily, by a licensed registered nurse and a certified athletic trainer. Families will be notified if their child gets seen by the nurse or athletic trainer.

Newark Academy can provide limited accommodations such as extended time, during the summer session.  If your child needs special accommodations, you must submit formal documentation (IEP) to the summer session office at least one week prior to the start of your child's enrollment.
