Strength and Conditioning

The goal of Newark Academy’s strength and conditioning program is to enhance and support the performance of our student-athletes on and off the field of play. Our holistic approach provides individualized support to students so they can make progress toward their individual and team goals. The program’s elements include strength training, speed/agility work, conditioning, nutrition, and movement education. Housed at the Danco Family Fitness Center, the program features weekly weight training, speed/agility & conditioning sessions. In-season teams will meet at times scheduled by their coach, while off-season athletes may come during open gym times.

Program Values

Safety: Keeping student-athletes safe is our top priority. Student-athletes will be taught proper exercise/weight selection, spotting, spacing and coaching through all movements.

Positive Environment: We aim to make our sessions a place where student-athletes want to be. We want to challenge and motivate our athletes with the knowledge that their work has lasting implications for them as individuals and for their team.

Variety: To ensure training sessions are active, we will vary our programs in terms of load, volume, and tempo, but key exercises will be consistently incorporated.

Character Skills: Our program helps student-athletes learn important skills they can use on and off the field, including accountability, resilience, and commitment.
