Boys' Swimming Wins Fourth-Consecutive Prep Championship

Newark Academy boys’ swimming won their fourth-consecutive Prep Championship on Tuesday, February 4. The team’s Prep B win in 2022 which kicked off the four-peat, was the program’s first Prep B title since 1966.

The Minutemen swam as a team to bring home the title. Some top finishers included Brett Matlosz ’25 taking first in the 50 Free and second in the 100 Free. The 200 Free relay (Ted Crall ’25, Brody Linenberg ’25, Alejandro Rodriguez ’25 and Matlosz) and the 400 Free relay (Rodriguez, Linenberg, Nathan Hsu ’28 and Matlosz) both finished second. These performances qualified those swimmers for the Meet of Champions on March 2nd and 3rd at the GCIT Aquatic Center in Sewell.

Newark Academy unfortunately fell to Saint Joseph’s Metuchen in the first round of the state tournament, ending the team’s run. The team finished the season with a 6-4 record and added to their Prep B legacy, bringing the traveling trophy back home to Livingston.
