Boys' Winter Track Finishes Second at Prep Championship
The Newark Academy boys’ winter track team placed second overall at the Prep Championships held on Tuesday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 12.
The first day of the championship included the field events. Newark Academy’s Matthew Herbert ’25 kicked things off with a first-place finish in the pole vault. Kabir Srivastav ’25 followed, coming in third in the shot put.
The track events were held on Wednesday, February 12, when NA really opened up. The boys’ and girls’ 55m both made it to the finals, with Wynston Ditchfield-Agboh ’27 coming in second for the boys. Ditchfield-Agboh also placed second in the 200m. Additional second-place finishes for the boys included Jaeden Henry ’25 in the 400m and Arun Damodaran ’27 in the 800m. For the girls, Annie Elberg ’28 placed second in the 400m (1:00.62). With this finish, Annie broke her own school record and qualified for Nationals. Multiple team members for the boys and girls also broke their own personal records in various events throughout the day.
Next up for the Minutemen is the Garden State Invitational on Friday, February 15 at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
