Girls' Swimming Wins Third-Consecutive Prep B Championship
Newark Academy girls’ swimming brought home their third-consecutive Prep B title on Wednesday, February 5. The first of the team’s three consecutive Prep wins (2023) was the program’s first since 1997.
The Minutemen of Newark Academy dominated multiple events and shattered numerous school records to bring home the title. The 200 Medley relay (Katiana Matlosz ’28, Kim Tran ’27, Laura Kim ’25, and Claire Wong ’25) placed second and broke the standing school record with a time of 1:47.98. Tran placed third in the 200 I.M. and broke another school record with a time of 2:07.93. The previous record was set in 2019 by Danning Hu (2:09.03). Matlosz added a second place finish in the 100 Back and Tran added a third place finish in the 100 Breast.
The Minutemen have had an extremely successful season so far, boasting five broken school records and one broken pool record to date. They are currently undefeated with a record of 9-0, earning the third seed and a bye in the first round of the state tournament. They will host Kent Place in the Simon Family Natatorium for the quarterfinal round. If they win, they head to second-seeded Pingry for the semifinals on Monday, February 10.
